I watched Noah storm off, and Aiden caught my eye.

Stay, little-mate. It’ll be fine.

I nodded, but this didn’t feel right. Angry or not, I loved them. Goddess, I might have been in over my head.

My body hummed with magic and I think I was starting to get a feeling for how to control it. I felt the balance of my mates and realized as long as I stayed on this side crazy, I would probably be okay.

Next I listened to instinct. Yes, I still wanted to kill Victor. But I wasn’t going to risk everyone over a personal vendetta.

Keep him safe? I asked.

Aiden was already trailing after them, but he gave me a sad wave without turning back.

I didn’t have time for this drama. I sighed as I watched them shift and disappear into the forest. This stress was my fault. I tipped my head to the sky and pleaded with a deity that had yet to show herself to me ever. Was she even real?

What was real?

The magic running over my skin was real. I stepped closer to Nick. If I understood this, I would be able to help. Now was the time to figure this out. I needed to remember who Nick was, though. Trust him. I needed to be with him on my terms.

“Can I kiss you?” I asked Nick.

He eyed me. “Fi, you never have to ask. I gave myself to you. I just wish it was the same. Your soul may know we are meant to be but your head doesn’t seem to be on the same wavelength.”

“How do you know?”

His eyes dulled, and he forced a smile.

“I’ve known you since you were six. I know when you’re overthinking the world. And right now, that’s what you are doing. Overthinking.”

My insides twisted.

“I’m sorry. It’s not that I don’t feel that we are right for each other. I know we are. I didn’t let you do the whole bond thing without knowing you were the right one. I just. It’s just so complicated. I thought the easiest thing I’d ever do is to be with you and Aiden and Noah and Drake.”

He nodded as if he got me, and maybe he did. “They are making it complicated. Aiden’s the only one who seems to be halfway okay with me, and even he is struggling. I would never hurt you and that means them.”

I nibbled my lower lip and stepped forward. “You just need to give everyone time. I mean, I never let myself feel anything until them. Not because I wasn’t attracted to you, but because my mind was a swirl of constant confusion. And now? It’s like being told that you not only can have the ice cream for free, you can have all the flavors you want and no one will stop you.”

His laughter was nervous. The overconfident Nick I’d always seen was missing.

“I’m the worst person ever. I’m so sorry for not seeing what was right in front of me Nick.”

He reached for my hand, and the magic danced between us.
